NONI LEAF (Morinda citrifolia)

Noni leaf extract reduces inflammation and has been used topically for arthritis. The noni leaf is known to invigorate the blood and speeds the healing of wounds and strengthens bones. It also expels parasites and fungus. In traditional plant-based medicine, the fruit, flower, leaves, bark and root of Morinda citrifolia have all been used for diverse medicinal purposes. In Polynesia, noni leaves have a history of topical use in poultices, for the treatment of rheumatic pain, inflammation, neuralgia, ulcers, gout, cough and cold, boils and ringworm.

In regard to its application for common ailments, Hawaiians and other island communities traditionally prescribed noni leaf to ease skin inflammations, and heal bruises and sprains. The pounded leaf juice was used for adult gingivitis, sore throats were treated by chewing the leaves and swallowing the juice, skin abscesses and boils were covered with leaf poultices, swelling was controlled with leaf maceration, and heated leaves were used for arthritic joints and for ringworm.

Noni, also known as Indian Mulberry, was also documented for medicinal use in ancient Sanskrit texts in India. The ancient plant has also been the subject of modern investigation for its benefits in reversing such health conditions as cardiovascular disease and cancer. The leaf and the root have medicinal properties, acting as a sedative and lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.

Noni is similar to another tropical plant aloe because it speeds the healing process for burns. Noni also provides improvements in inflammatory conditions such as bursitis or carpal tunnel syndrome, bacterial infection, menstrual problems, colds, flu, headaches and allergies.
